PHS-SL with inserter...

This video shows a PHS-SL configured for a high volume of national healthcare PIN letters. The system is designed to print, label, fold and insert at speeds of 6,000 PIN mailers per hour.
Blank A4 sheets are personalised by the online laser printer. The data stream includes the PIN number as well as the recipient's name and address and the generic text. The PIN is encrypted within the datastream and must be unencrypted by the HSM before being printed.
The sheet passes into the PHS module which is protected from the operator by opaque covers and electronic locks until after the PIN number has been covered.
The label unit applies a scratch off label over the PIN. The label can be a very expensive security label or a simple scratch off label, the application technology is the same. Here the label is quite big because multiple PINs are being covered. The label construction is such that each PIN can be uncovered separately.
A camera checks that a label has been applied before the carriers are folded to DL format and transported to the inserter.
The letters are inserted into an envelope which is sealed. Any letters with errors are rejected and good mailings are shingled on the delivery conveyor.
